Farms
New York State is home to some of this Nations oldest farm land. The area was richly populated and cultivated by the Haudenosaunee people. Among the Iroquois Nation were the Seneca and Cayuga tribes who foraged, fished and cultivated grains to sustain themselves, by the bounty of the land. They lived with the land, among the flora, fauna, and they thrived. These lands have always been rich in glacial till, stone and loam. The mineral dense soils give and give, creating an abundance of life. Coupled with a high water tables the Finger Lakes has always been a vast ecosystem of sustainability. Native vines grow strong and tall in the thickness of the forest and can be seen to this day on roadside hedgerows- flourishing.
At Prism Cellars we are extremely fortunate to neighbor so many organic farms. The seasons change and so we must turn a leaf and adapt to what we grow and eat and enjoy in every season. Such is the cycle. Farmers work hard and without them we would have no food. We like food and we think you like food too! Most farmers are also extremely kind and fervent people who care deeply about the earth and the lasting impact we have for future generations. So please, support local growers and businesses who source from them. Until we have our own farm to work, Prism Cellars will seek out fruit from likeminded farmers.
